Mao Shan Wang is not an entry point into durian. It is the final destination. Flesh so thick, so bittersweet, and so aggressively fragrant that every other variety simply fails to prepare you for it. Durian Custard opens with the fresh, immediate smell of durian flesh, kaffir lime and banana leaf keeping the opening clean and grounded before the richness takes over. The heart is pure Mao Shan Wang, dense, bittersweet, and heavy with cream. Champaca flower sits just above it, light enough to stop the weight from becoming too much. Condensed milk thickens everything further, slower and richer with every minute on the skin. The base brings it all close to the body, sandalwood and coconut milk softening the richness without taking anything away from it. The durian never fully leaves. It just settles deeper, becoming the last thing you smell and the first thing everyone else remembers.
